"You're welcome." He smirked a bit again. Her change in demeanor was enough to tell him how much it meant to her. He was glad to see it. "Just don't let me regret it." Well he had to lighten the mood somehow. He didn't doubt her capabilities at all. She had the strength and the spunk to do whatever she wanted. It made him wonder how she ended up here instead of...well anywhere else.
"The hard part will just be controlling ourselves until then." WHile that could have been a perfect induendo, he actually meant it more about the run than anything else. He felt his own beast clawing at its cage and begging to be set free. They had to wait, it wasn't too long now but there was a possibilty it wouldn't be soon enough. A pack that didn't get to Run was a ticking time bomb just waiting to explode. "Maybe I can get the date pushed up."

"I won't, Kaiden. I can promise you that. I've had a lot of experience in leading hunts."
Keertana still missed those days but they were in the past she needed to focus on her future. Her mind had been nagging her about picking a mate. She didn't want to be alone for the rest of her life but the males in the pack just didn't appeal to her. None of them made her inner wolf jump. Well, except for Kaiden. But she would never admit it to him. He already had a big ego he didn't need her enhancing it. She would never admit that he was right. That and she wanted a mate not just a quick night of fun. She was done with those nights.
Her mind drifted to the run he talked about. Her inner wolf clawed to be free. It wanted to run. It wanted to feel the wind in it's fur and the moon on its back licking at her heels as she ran. Oh how she loved to run. She loved feeling the dirt under her paws. The feeling of sneaking up on her prey. It not knowing she was there until it was too late and her teeth were around its throat. She didn't want to run right now she needed to run. She looked up at Kaiden.
"I think it would be a wise choice to. Its only a matter of time before one of the members can't wait any longer. Then you have a mess on your hands. But that's just my opinion."

"Good." Kaiden's recognition to her experience of leading the hunt was just that. He honestly wasn't even thinking about it any more. Now he started to think about how they could make the date earlier. It wasn't like there were a new werewolf to train for their first moon. And he also knew that they weren't the only ones that were getting agitated.
When she spoke again he heard her as well but didn't say anything at first. She was right. The last thing he needed was to clean up after a rogue wolf, especially one from his pack. They wouldn't be able to walk for a week after doing such a stupd thing, but he needed to prevent it. He would just have to speak with the Chief later and hope that he could pull some strings. With or without the police escort, they needed this.
"Keep your ears open." Kaiden's arms folded over his chest as he still seemed a little lost in thought. "I'll make sure we Run before anything gets out of hand."

She just nodded as he told her to keep her ears open. It wasn't the first time that she had had to. More than once she had to jump in and break up a fight between two of the females in the pack. The single ones seemed to always be fighting over the males. She thought them stupid. Yes it was nice to impress a male with your fighting skills but it should be more impressive with their hunting skills.
Her stomach growled as she looked down at her watch. It was close to lunch time and she had only eaten a granola bar before she had come out to wash her car. She wasn't used to eating on the go and she had an urge to cook something. A lot of the pack members came to her home for a meal. She was always cooking something. She glanced up at Kaiden and wondered if he would like to join her for lunch.
"You hungry?"

As if on cue Kaiden felt his stomach tighten to the idea of a meal. He had gotten quite used to her cooking and she didn't make it easy to refuse. "You know you don't have to bribe me with food." Kaiden smirked to her and wiggled his eyebrows suggestively in her direction. It seemed that the serious Alpha had suddenly faded away as quickly as it appeared. He was good at that.
"And what would be on the menu?" He was asking while already on his way towards the door of her home. As Alpha he naturally had every right to just barge into her house if he wanted to. But before he reached the door he turned about to see if she was following or not. He may have had the right but there was still something to say for human manners. That and he really didn't like to step into the lives of his pack too much. If he had to make a stand he would, but otherwise they didn't need him intruding upon them all the time. Not to mention he needed his own time away.

She smiled and shook her head as his ego returned again. She watched him walk towards the door and stop and wait for her. She walked right past him and opened the door letting him close it as he entered. Keertana walked right to the large kitchen. It was one of the reasons she had chose this house. The kitchen was the best part and it reminded her of family. She only wished she had one. She did in a way if you were talking about her pack but at the same time it wasn't the same.
"Well, I was thinking of making my swiss and mushroom burgers. Went out foraging yesterday."
She had to admit she still held her Cherokee ways. You could even see it in the decor in her house. She had a lot of Cherokee items. She had snuck back onto the reservation after the fire and saved a few things from her home. One was a picture of her and her family as well as another picture of the old pack she had been born into. Some other things were traditional Cherokee objects she had around the house.
Keertana went to the refrigerator and grabbed the ingredients she needed and started to prep everything. The burgers were already formed with her mix of seasonings she had picked in her garden out back. She put them on the grill she had in the middle of her stove top and started to clean and cut the mushrooms.

"Sounds good to me." She was probably the only one that he'd trust to know the difference between a good mushroom and a bad one. Kaiden moved over to a chair and sat himself down while she busied herself in the kitchen. He watched her quietly for awhile. There was just something about this moment that suddenly had him thinking. He shook his head slightly to get the wandering thoughts out of his head.
"So, how have things been? Otherwise..." Small talk...he wasn't really good at it but he had to try. There really wasn't a point in just staring at her the whole time she cooked them lunch. Even if he offered to help he doubted that she would accept it. So he was stuck trying to think of something to talk about until it was time to eat.

She started to cut the mushrooms and the swiss cheese. She usually just bought a block of it and cut it herself. It seemed to taste better that way. A lot of things tasted better when you did it yourself. She loved growing things in her garden. Everything was natural and free of chemicals. The burgers sizzled on the grill and she stepped over and flipped the, to the other side. The scent of the meat and the herbs wafted through the air and made her smile. This was what she liked. She turned back to Kaiden as he spoke again. Her eyes took him in sitting in the chair at the table. Her mind wandered but she pushed the thought away. no. He was....well, Kaiden.
"Things have been alright. A little restless but everyone is recently so nothing new really. How are things with you?"
She really wanted to know. She didn't really know anything about him other than what he led on. He was the Alpha though she should know more about him. If she was to obey him she felt like she needed to know more. She didn't want to obey someone with a blind eye. She brushed some brown hair out of her eyes and reached back to pull it back away from her face and into a ponytail at the base od her neck.

Kaiden shrugged his shoulders to her question. He lived from day to day and really didn't think about how he was. He knew how the pack was as a whole and that was what really mattered to him. Perhaps he should have really made more time for himself but then again those times were usually used in torturing the available women of the pack. Maybe it was mean but it was still entertaining. It wouldn't be so fun if they weren't so determined to bag them an Alpha. A lot of things were about status in a pack but that kind of...determination wasn't very flattering.
"I can't really complain. Things are going rather well. And as long as the vampires don't stir the pot we'll be fine." He couldn't help but to be wary of the damned vampires. While things seemed rather peaceful now, there was always that unspoken tension. The underhanded comments. He was surprised that it seemed to be working though. There was an effective truce and hopefully it stayed that way. Last thing they needed was blood on the ground that would drench the whole community.

Keertana took the burgers off the grill and transferred them to a skillet to add the mushrooms and the cheese. She covered it for a second to melt the cheese. Once that was done she placed them on buns she had made the other day from a cornflour she bought at a small Native store that was about an hour from here. She walked over to the table and placed a plate in front of him. She then grabbed two glasses and filled them with ice water and then sat down herself. Everything smelled good and she was happy on the outcome of it.
"Ugh, Vampires. I still can't stand them. I mean I understand we have to be civil with them but that doesn't make my hatred any less. They better keep to their end of the treaty."
She had only come into contact with vampires once before she had moved here. It had been on her travels after the fire. Keertana had been a lot of places and one of those places had harbored a vampire couple. They didn't particularly like werewolves and a fight had broken out. It had taken a lot for her to actually kill one of them. She was lucky the other one had run after that. She hadn't thought that she could have gone much longer if it had stayed.

"Yea, they had better." He growled slightly at the thought but then his eyes sat upon the burger infront of him. It looked delicious but before he sank his teeth into it he spoke again. "Though part of me kind of wishes they would. I could use a good war." Not that he really was the warfare type, he was but he wasn't. Perhaps it was just the carnage he wanted. He ability to go crazy and just rip things to shreds. Been awhile since he had used that hulking hybrid form of his.
He pushed the thoughts of carnage, which probably were just fuled by the beast in him, and took a bite of the burger infront of him. He took a moment to savor it, enjoy the taste of it. But something was odd..this didn't taste like a normal burger. Definitely wasn't beef...
"Mngh...this is good." It was all he managed to say before he started to eat more.

Keertana took a bite of the burger she had made for herself. It was good. She had to admit she was a good cook. All thanks to her mother and aunts. But she never used just beef when she was cooking with meet. This certain burger was an Elk burger. She had recently taken a three week long trip to the mountains to clear her head. The anniversary of the fire was approaching and she had been high strung. She had of course cleared it with Kaiden but other than that she had told no one where she was going. She had hunted while she was there and had taken down a nice bull Elk by herself. She had brought home the meat and was using it a lot before it went bad.
"I'm glad you like it."
She watched him eat and couldn't help but chuckling. He ate like any other mean but she could catch little glimpses of the wolf inside him. But she knew the wolf didn't want cooked meat. It wanted the raw deal. The wild hunt. She thought of what Kaiden said about him sort of wanting the vampires to break the treaty. The animal in her wanted it but Keertana wasn't really a fighter. She would kill if she had to. But other than that she was fine how they were. She took a sip of water and another bite of her burger.
"So tell me...why haven't you picked a mate yet? You have plenty of options with every single female throwing themselves at you."

Kaiden nearly choked on his burger as she asked that question. It wasn't something he expected to come back up into conversation. Whe he was able to collect himself he smirked over at her, "Not every female." He teased her then took a sip of water from the glass before him. "Why should I settle for someone throwing themselves at me when I can take my pick at my own leisure." That cocky ego returned as he leaned back in his chair to look at her.
It took a moment but his demeanor changed once more, "In all seriousness. I take my rank of Alpha seriously. Why shouldn't I take who I bring as my mate just as seriously?" Another sip of his water was taken before he moved forward to lean his arms on the table a bit. "She needs to be able to balance me out. In the sense that what traits I lack in are the traits my mate needs to excel in. Only with that kind of Alpha pair can a pack really flourish." It was obvious that he had thought about it on more than one occasion. While it seemed like he was just having fun taking any 'tail' that came his way, he was judging each and every one of them. Hell, the females he saw the most were the ones he was least interested in mating.

She laughed a little as he choked on the burger. He apparently wasn't expecting her to ask that question. But she was curious as to why he hadn't picked on yet. She glared at him almost when he said that not all females threw themselves at him. It was true. She tried to stay away from him when he was surrounded by the other females. She hated it when he tried to get into her bed. She would save that for the one she chose as a mate if she had to.
He had a point though when he finally got serious about the subject. She realized that he had thought about it on more than one occasion. She really hadn't thought that he had. She thought that he had just been having fun with any female he could find. But maybe he wasn't the player she thought him to be. She leaned forward on her hand and studied him. There was something about him she just couldn't place her finger on. He was a good Alpha she had to admit that but there was something else that she was drawn to.
"You have a point. That's exactly how my mother was to my father. They were complete opposites but she balanced him out. It was always said among my tribe that she was the one who really made the decisions in the pack. But she made my father think he was the one who came up with the idea."

Kaiden couldn't help the chuckle coming from him at the idea of her father thinking that he came up with the idea. He shook his head a little but there was still a smile on his lips. "Exactly. It is a partnership and it isn't a decision that I can take lightly. I can afford to lose myself in territories and minor squabbles between packmates. But the Alpha female is the one that really makes a pack a family. It's that whole....mothering...thing." He waved his hand in the air a little in a gesture before he finished the last of the water in his glass.
He returned to the burger just long enough to finish every bite of it. It was too good not to eat every last bite. "Mn...again...one of the best burgers I've ever had." He smiled to her and rose to his feet so he could gather his plate and her own to take it over to the sink. He had manners when he wanted to have them..
