She smiled as she thought about it. She had always wanted to be a mother but she still hadn't found the right wolf to call her mate and actually have that dream become a reality. She finished the last of her burger as he spoke. he was completely right. It was a partnership not one to be taken lightly either. The Alpha Female had to keep the pack in line as well but the way she did it was subtle and caring and not with brute force like the Alpha Male. The Alpha Female took care of a lot of things and was a valued member of the pack.
Keertana was about to take her plate and his up when he stood up and beat her to it. She watched him carry them to the sink and she couldn't help but admire his body again. He was very attractive but she never really cared about looks in a man. She wanted someone who understood her. One who could be her other half, one who could be there for her when she needed him. But she hadn't been able to find him yet. She smiled at Kaiden.
"I'm glad you liked it. It's the Elk meat I got when I went away for those few weeks."

"Is that so? Well I knew it couldn't just be an ordinary cow." He smirked to her before he walked back over to the table and sat down again. "How was that trip?" He hadn't wanted to pry into her personal life too much but he was curious as to how it went. She had been very determined to go and he knew if he hadn't allowed it she probably would have just gone anyway. So it had been better just to allow it and stay on her good side. Not that he really needed to stay on her good side..it was just a smarter idea at the time.
He had wanted to go on a trip himself, but as the Alpha he couldn't leave without procaution. Anyone could take the opportunity to attack while an Alpha was away. Even with the truce he couldn't leave his pack unprotected like that.

"It was good. Thank you for letting me go. I never got to really thank you for that. I needed it."
It was true. Everyone in the pack could see that she had been tense and restless a couple days before she had left. She had been snapping at everyone and Kaiden had even had to step in as she had started a fight with one of the other females. If he hadn't of stepped in that night she probably would have lost it completely. She hadn't meant to fight the girl but she had said the wrong things at the wrong time to her. Normally she would have just brushed it off because she didn't really like confrontation but that night her inner animal was out and she had almost ripped the girl's throat out. That night he had given her permission to go on the trip. Even if he hadn't after that fight she would have gone anyways unless he wanted another fight on his hands.
"Sometimes I wish things were different. I love the pack you guys are my family and I would do anything for anyone here but....I could have been an Alpha by now..."
She had whispered the last part to herself. She hadn't really meant to say it really. no one knew that about her. No one here knew that she was the daughter of an Alpha and that she was destined to be one. She had hidden it well by not going up in the ranks of her pack now. She had stayed in the background just living there and doing what was needed of her. She tried to tell herself that she hadn't wanted to be the wolf her father had wanted her to be. But deep down inside she knew that she really did want to be that wolf. She had wanted to make her father proud. but all of that was ripped from her. She couldn't ask for more when she had been accepted in the pack she was in now. Before she was a loner. Some even dared call her a rogue.

Kaiden looked over at her with a bit of a smile. "Yea I could tell." He knew that look and could sense how tense she really was. That was the reason he allowed her to go. Of course he expected she would go anyway but that was besides the point.
It was funny to think that her mumbling couldn't be heard by his keen ears. "I expected as much. Only Alpha material knows how to lead a Hunt with such confidence." He smirked towards her. She had agreed to his request of her more readily than an amateur would have.
He watched her for a moment as she grew quiet and inward upon herself. He thought to himself for a few moments himself. He understood where she was coming from..for the most part. But he wasn't sure exactly how to get her to open up more. "Things can only be different if you make them that way. You are in charge of your destiny."

She laughed a bit in a slightly sarcastic way. Yeah she was in charge of her destiny. For the past eight years in her life she hadn't really been in charge of much. Things just kept happening to her. It all started with the genocide of her family. It had been rumored that vampires had been the cause of it. That they had left a tip and some evidence to the authorities then had been there to make sure it all got out of hand. In the supernatural world it had been no secret that there had been a rather big pack in her area. But she hadn't thought that it would have been wiped out in one night. She had even found vampire scent amongst the rubble as it still burned and she walked through it the day after.
Her eyes looked up at him and studied him. How had he known about her? She had thought that she had done a good job in hiding it. She had let nothing slip except for her slight comment about her father earlier. But how he said it it seemed he had known for awhile now. Yes, she had been confident in leading the hunt but she didn't think that that would give her away. A lot of people were confident.
"You knew?"

It was his turn to laugh but his laugh was different. It was a light hearted and almost amused laugh. "I'm an Alpha for a reason dear." He smirked to her and looked her in the eyes. "You've given far too many clues for one. And really you have all the qualities of an Alpha-brat."
That smirk turned into a smile as he leaned forward upon the table again. "What I want to know...is why do you hide it? I can understand not wanting to be in the spotlight. But why hide who you are? Your upbringing is everything to you...obviously." He gestured slightly to the decor of her home. "Perhaps its time you let the real Keertana out to play."
Those dark brown eyes of his looked deeply into her own, curious to see how she'd react to his opinion.

She was an idiot for not thinking that he had known. He was right. He was the Alpha for a reason. She of all people should have known that he would have known about her upbringing. Her father had always known everyone's business in the pack. He kept it safe that was and she was sure Kaiden knew as well. That was how an Alpha worked.
Keertana laughed a little as he called her an Alpha-brat. he had a point. She still carried herself the way a daughter of an Alpha would. Even when she fought. She didn't take anyone's crap because she was taught to never let her guard down and to fight for what she believed in. Her eyes scanned the room as she took everything in. All the decorations of her family surrounding her. Almost bringing them back to her. She could still sometimes hear the young children running along the streets laughing as the elder woman sat and weaved baskets on the porches or made new garments of clothing. He asked her why she hid it. But honestly she didn't know why. But then as she sat there and thought about it. She let her arm fall away from her face and land lightly on the table as she realized why.
"I'm scared. I'm scared that...I'll let them down. That I would be such a bad Alpha that my family wouldn't be proud of me. That they died for nothing. Kaiden, they were murdered in one night. In one night I lost everything. My home, my pack, my parents, my family, my community, my tribe. Everything. And I was saved. I can't let them have died for nothing and I'm scared that if I try to be the wolf my father wanted me to be I'll screw up and fail him."

He watched her quietly as she spoke. He judged her movements and the way she spoke about being afraid. "Everyone is afraid of disappointing someone."
He smiled gently to her before he spoke again. "But you being afraid and not doing anything about it. That is disappointing those people far more than trying. No one can blame you for trying...and if you fail, as long as you go back at it. No one will be disappointed in you. It is the bravery of trying that is what will make anyone proud." Yes Kaiden was a womanizing bachelor but he was also an Alpha through and through. He wasn't going to let one of his pack crumble into shambles, especially not infront of him.
"Sure succeeding is what everyone wants to do. But you can't succeed all the time. To think that would be foolish...and futile." He was destined to fail someday. It was inevitable that some young wet nosed brat would kick his ass and take his rank from him. That was the way of things. If he was lucky it would be his own son someday.

Keertana looked up and watched him as he spoke. And again she hated to admit it but...he was right. She had never thought of it before. She had been too consumed with her fear of letting her family down to realizes that she was by not doing anything. She was letting everyone down by just fading into the shadows. She didn't belong there! She was the daughter of Moytoy Keetowah, Alpha of the Tanasi pack. She was destined to be an Alpha coming from a very long line of them. She wasn't this woman who fell back away from the spotlight. She should stand proud of who she was and still is.
"But how am I supposed to do that? This pack already has an Alpha and a damn good one at that."
Kaiden was a good Alpha. He reminded her of her father at times. He was compassionate and caring but blunt and strong at the same time. He knew how to run a pack and she knew that he was going to for a long time. Until one day when he can't fight anymore. But how was she supposed to be the wolf she was meant to be when she couldn't and wouldn't take away his rank?

"Psh...never said you could have my job." He smirked at her playfully since she also mentioned that he was a good Alpha. He tried to be. "But do you really need to have a title to be who you are?" He folded his arms up behind his head while he watched her.
"If that's really the case. Beta's position is still open." He stated it bluntly but it was the truth. The last Beta was a little more than irritated when he tried to challenge Kaiden. He didn't kill the man but it was humiliating enough that he decided to leave the community. His loss. Not that Kaiden was going to miss a reason to look over his shoulder.
Out of the rest of the pack he couldn't help but think that she would be the best for the position. And if she really felt like trying for the Alpha slot, well she would have more of a right to do so than anyone else then.

"Not like you would give it to me anyways."
She laughed and smiled at him. She respected him. Of course a pack member has to respect their Alpha but he had earned her respect. That was a hard thing to do with Keertana. She smiled up at him as she watched him fold his arms behind his head. Her eyes flicked to his muscles for an instant. She couldn't help but notice how handsome he was. He of course knew that and didn't need anyone telling him that but she had never really noticed before. Probably because before today she had thought of him as a womanizer and that was it. But he was more than that. He didn't want just tail. He wanted a happy and peaceful pack.
She thought about his offer for her to become the Beta. She had never really thought about it before. The last Beta she had known was the one her father had said she was going to marry. She had no choice but to agree to it. It was her father after all and he was the Alpha. But she didn't love the man. Her eye returned to his.
"I like the idea of Beta. Thank you. I won't let you down, Kaiden."
As she looked at him she couldn't help but let her mind wander back to there it tried to wander before. She saw him sitting at the table with her but her imagination pushed it further. Pushed it to the point of even thinking that there was a possibility of her being his mate. She pushed the thought out as soon as it entered. No. It was Kaiden.

"I know you wont. If anyone knows how a Beta should act...it would be you." He answered simply. At least this way he wouldn't have to worry about some idiot backing him up just from the lack of anyone else worth being in the position.
He caught the glances of her eyes and really didn't blame her for taking a look at the man that sat before her. He'd let her touch too but he knew that she wouldn't. At least with her as his Beta he would be able to get to know her a little better. Not that she didn't wear herself on her sleeve anyway. At least it was apparent to him, she hid it pretty well to everyone else.
Kaiden lingered for a moment then pushed himself up to his feet. "I probably should get going." He really couldn't think of any other reason to stay and he shouldn't probably linger anyway. His hand moved up to brush some of his hair out of his face. "I'll see what I can do about the Run and let you know."

Her mind was jolted back to the present as she watched him stand and say he should get going. She nodded and stood up herself. Her brown hair falling around her face and along her shoulders. She knew her mind would revisit it's little fantasy later when she was alone. But she didn't really know if she wanted to or not.
Keertana walked over to the kitchen counter and picked up a plate that was wrapped in plastic wrap. She knew he would appreciate it so she had made an extra burger for him with all the fixings. Even a piece of cake she had made the other day. She liked to take care of people so she always made extra food for them to take home. Kaiden was no different. She smiled and handed it to him. Her hand slightly brushed his and there was a slight shock as their skin met. She smiled and pulled her hand back and started to wonder what that meant. Her grandmother always said everything happened for a reason one just had to pay attention to the signs.
"Here. I made an extra. Just in case you get hungry later."

He arched a brow slightly before he smirked and took the plate from her. He blinked a bit as he felt the shock from her hand brushing up against his own. That was a little odd.
"Thanks." She was quite the woman. Fierce and proud yet caring enough to send someone home with a set of food. "I appreciate it." He nodded to her and walked towards her front door.
"Let me know if anyone gives you hell." He didn't expect anything to happen, and if it did she would be able to take care of it. But he wasn't about to let someone push their weight around without a little 'chat' session with himself. He'd just teach them some manners...thats all.

Keertana laughed a bit as he said to let him know if anyone bothered her. There was his ego again always popping up. He knew she could handle herself. He had seen that first hand when she had fought that girl but she figured that he had to feel like the Alpha one more time before he left her house. It was cute in a way to see how he was always thinking she wasn't capable. Instead of giving him a smart remark like she was going to a smile crossed her face.
"I'll do that. You're welcome here anytime, Kaiden. Whenever you want a good home cooked meal or just a chat."
She didn't know why she had said that. She would normally just shoot him a smart remark and try and knock his ego down a bit but she had just invited him over again. This one day had it really changed her perception on him? Only time would tell.
